img001.jpgEbony Edwards was a two sport athlete at Chandler High in the mid 1990's who participated in track and basketball. Edwards was a talented track and field athlete, recording the third furthest long jump in state history her sophomore year. Her true talent, however, was on the hardwood. A skilled, dynamic scorer , Edwards was named the 5A Basketball Player of the Year her junior and senior seasons. In addition to her individual awards, Edwards led Chandler to back-to-back state titles, the first basketball title for the high school. Edwards was named the Gatorade Player of the Year for Arizona her senior year. As a senior, she scored 728 points in a season, 4th all-time in state history. She finished her career with nearly two thousand points in only three varsity seasons, a tremendous achievement that placed her in the top ten all-time in the state when she retired.

Edwards was a highly regarded recruit coming out of high school. She elected to remain in state and attend ASU, where she hoped to help third year head coach Charli Turner Thorne continue improving the woman's basketball program. It was not to be. After recording 18 points and 6 rebounds in her college debut (in only twenty minutes, no less), Edwards suffered a torn ACL that sidelined her for the rest of the year. She was never the same after her injury, playing limited minutes for the rest of her collegiate career. What had once been a promising career was cruelly cut short.
